Post Looking for info about S12s power supplies.
on: April 28, 2016, 08:23

Hi everybody !

Hope all is well for everyone and their Series Twelve. :)

I'm currently planning some mods on the power supplies of my beloved S12 (I want to go full linear), so I've got a few questions someone here maybe has answers for...

- I'm wondering if anyone would know what the 7 pin connectors used at the rear of the PSU's are ? I can see "AMP" engraved on them, so I reckon they could be Amphenol ?

Anyone has an idea ?

- For those who already have full linear PSU's with their console (Paul I think ?) : would you have more info about what's actually in the Control surface and the execution/channels rack PSU's ?

Any picture of the inside of one of these would be very very useful for me. :)

My guess is that it's all based on Power one / Int Power modules used in master/slave stacks to get the required amperage. Like F15-15's for the +15V, -15V and 12V, etc.

Thanks in advance for any info, and all the best to you guys !

Well, I might have found the connector's type, it's not Amphenol, but rather Tyco's AMP series : http://uk.farnell.com/te-connectivity-amp/206227-1/receptacle-socket-contact-7way/dp/1056016?CMP=GRHS-1000056

Hi! I'm sorry, I haven't been here for very long. How lucky that this question came up only a week ago :-)
Maikol, you have to 'help me help you!' :-D
I'm not sure where to look or what to look for, so just tell me and I should be able to explain or post pics.

Btw, I'm just replacing three of the LPT-62 PSUs in the surface. One died the other day, and when I measured them all, two others measured bad with the 12V side measuring approx 15V which indicates that they are about to leave this life..

Btw II: I just contacted the manufacturer of the LPT-62 just to check if production will go on. They have been around since the mid 90's so I'm a little concerned. Awfully important stuff to keep our consoles alive..

Hi Paul !

I have to say I have no idea what these LPT-62 are ! :-P

Are they in the control surface ?

Yep, at least in my surface I have one powering each section of four channels, one for each serial board etc, so there are 11 of them in mine. I've lost three already and had to replace. I'm surprised that you haven't had to do this in all the years.. Mouser sells them. http://www.mouser.se/ProductDetail/Artesyn-Embedded-Technologies/LPT62/?Artesyn-Embedded-Technologies%2fLPT62%2f&qs=RCLU9o6%252bptzH4abkXckEnA%3d%3d
And today I got word from the manufacturer Artesyn that they don't plan to end production yet

Hmmm that is interesting, as I don't think mine has anything like this !

I actually have no 230V AC going to the control surface, instead I've got a 4U racked power supply in the tech booth (with the other PSU's) sending +5V and +12V DC to the CS through thick welding cables.

I guess Harrison had to use your solution for the largest surfaces, as for my small surface the PSU is rated for 5V@120A already ! 8O

Ahh, ok, yes could be the solution for larger surfaces as you say. Btw, Maikol I've tried to find how to replace my avatar on the forum.. What did I miss? :-)
