Post Need opinions on what do with large Harrison series twelve console
on: July 30, 2014, 09:57

Hey guys, my work is replacing our series twelve console and I work like to know if it's worth selling in any capacity. It is has a few faults but it is still used in live broadcast and has been serviced well. It also has many spares including four mac computers. Once it's removed I fear many more faults may occur if reassembled, would love to hear suggestions would a shame to just throw out a such a good console(88 faders from memory)
Thanks
Steve

Hi Steve,

Welcome here!

Well, these babies our now pretty hard to sell, so hard in fact that some are just given away (check Craig Alvin's recent post).

You'll probably find people here interested in spares and bits, but probably not the whole system.

Where are you based ?

Maybe you guys could find a local studio willing to take care of it and sell them for cheap ?

Cheers

Thanks for suggestions- based in australia, had a little studio interest but I think they are worried what they might be getting into which is understandable. Might put more feelers out

Yeah of course if they don't know the beast they'll be afraid to have troubles with it.

However, if the console was well maintained, it should not be a problem to reinstall it in another studio if things are done carefully.
Most of the people on this forum (myself included) use second hand consoles more than 20 years old with very little problems.

I for example installed my S12 myself after it had travelled from GB to France on a truck. With the right documentation (that you guys should have with you console), being careful and double checking everything (like every ribbon and other cables should be identified on both end, every channel card should be checked after installation for any chip that might have moved a bit out of its socket), it should not be difficult to do.

Another solution might be to pay a local harrison (better ask to Harrison headquarters if they'd recommend someone in Australia) specialist to check and install the desk for them, which they could perhaps afford if they get the console for very cheap ?

Let us know how it turns out!

Cheers

May I ask what problems arose with that console? I'm interested in the weak points of our consoles. It's always good to be prepared :D

Hi Steve,

Do you still have the console?
I'm interested.

Thanks,

Vince
