Going back to the film vs music discussion.
Experience has shown this to be a deal/heartbreaker. Paul Svenre's console was a film board but he had the last music monitor panel Harrison had and the monitor rack was converted down to a music monitor.
Bohus Studios (?) in Sweden tried and gave up without the music monitor.
So, budget for an off the shelf one or a custom one, because you have no IFB or cue system as you know it. Film consoles did not overdub.
I did do a foldback add-on for ADR for Goldcrest in London for their S12 (which was the first S12 with PecDir panels and film monitor), so an IFB system can be added.

I have a film monitoring S12 and I have no clue why that's an issue for a music studio. Btw Bohus didn't sell the S12 because of the Film setup - at least that's not what Toby told me and he's been the guy running that console.
On the other hand I have no clue what an IFB is ... :D
I bought an Avocet because I didn't wanted to be forced to run the whole console just in case I wanna listen to some CD ...

Ah so you have no issue with film monitoring console? I would have thought it only offered more monitor options? You can tell I have not assembled the desk yet. Finishing the room. Once I power it up I’ll figure out what some of you are talking about!
What a mission..

For those interested in the progress of my Harrison journey:
The desk build is on hold until I can sort out the HD with the required Config file to run the board. Dave Wheeler in Nashville is converting the HD to an sd Micro card too. I also have to uprate the circuit board to 60 amps. Once that is done I can transfer the board sections in position within the newly modelled mixing room I am finishing off. The last part is to soundproof the machine room and install some cooling as I am told the cages require aircon even though each cage has 4 fans pulling air through. What do you suggest. Is this required?

I have posted this on Gearslutz but in case one of the Harrison S12 brain boxes spot this here - I’m having a struggle understanding a simple thing...If you know the Harrison execution cages, there are a multitude of in/out dsub connectors. Each 25pin dsub carries 8 channels either in our out. Mine has 140 audio channels therefore madi or dante is the only way to access that amount of audio channels right?
If so the my question is this, connecting the multitude of dsub line in and out off the execution cages to the daw, what is the physical link between the Madi (interface) and the many analogue dsubs for the console?
If you have 8 x dsub snakes coming off the execution cages then WHAT are these plugging into?
To clarify - I'm not asking about the analogue audio interfaces, thats easy. It's the Madi interface which provides additional channels. I have looked at the BEL and a few others which offer audio dsub outs and ins on a madi interface. Is this what I need? What products are out there you guys use?
Proposed signal path: DAW to - AD/DA interface (Goliath HD) with Madi in/out to - ? madi interface with dsub 8x audio interfaces for x amount of audio in/outs plugged into the execution cages?
Ta again for your help in this.
Rob

The desk is in and a pair of new (ish)1032a's bought yesterday for monitoring, 1 Auratone and a Velodyne sub and some NS10m Studio's coming. Now the tricky part is to figuer out how to connect the interfaces in/out of the cages. 1 slow step at a time. I am excited but this has stretched me further then I thought. I am sure it is worth it. The desk feels so solid and confident in its design. It is a really good idea to keep the heat and noise away from the working space as well as the recall options.
Harrison and Dave Wheeler are creating the config on a micro card scsi converter now. When that arrives I am in able to see what the hell is going on with all the functions!
A big thanks so far to Jarin Bressler and who has been super helpful and may even pop over to show me around the system. Amazing people I am meeting through this.

Can someone help me with this please?
I have 3 sections (consoles) all interlinked with controller cables ( or what ever its called) to the master interface. Problem is I don't know where the correct input is for which on each section?
There are 3 serial interfaces per section. 2 high speed 'IN'nand 1 low speed 'IN' I assume they mean 'IN and OUT' as it is a 2 way communication??
The master interface cable comes, I am assuming to the centre section. From this centre section the are 2 more cables running out to either side.
Can someone point me to the correct serial interfaces for each input and output?

Have assumed the low speed is for the interconnection between the sections. The high speed is to connect to the master interface?
Many thanks
