Hello friends, we are using an Macintosh IIVX to run the S12 now and we are planning to get another Mac in case of emergency. My question is should it be IIVX again or could we use other models? Also what spare parts would you suggest to make a backup machine?

Hi there,
I have had a fair bit of experience with my 2 IIVX's. As far as I understand this is the only model to run the S12 cards. Correct me if I am wrong here of course but space is super limited and specific to this nubus mac.
Spares - good question. In my case both power suppies I had to repair. I opened them up and noted that a cap and a diode had blown, if I remember. They both failed exactly the same. I am an amateur at this but I managed to fix it. I also referb'd them both. Pulled everthing out and soap washed the pcb (see google). The HD I replaced with an SD version - Speak to Dave Wheeler who does the conversion. Its not that simple as it turns out so best to get him involved.
I also peroxided both cases so they look new and run as new again. Look after them!

Very late reply here..just wanted to mention that if you plan to get another model for back up make sure the RAM and other parts are compatible, at least if you want to be able to move them to the back up computer. I'm using a VX too that I got with the system bought used directly from Harrison. They maxed the RAM for stability and those memory cards aren't easy to find so I try to stay with the VX. Just posted a thread about my computer issues... I'm now on my third VX and working to get at least one of the first two alive again for back up..
