Problem with the Graphic slave! PROBLEM SOLVED!

I’m having a pretty annoying problem with the S12:

The touchscreen freezes, mostly while entering a slate for a channel. It becomes nonreactive to touch, and the mac says “Graphic slave has not responded, please save your work and restart”

A few seconds later it says “Autocard has not responded for 30 seconds”.
At the same time the racks are not displaying what they display normally, it’s as if they were disconnected. The only way to get it working again is to reload the code from the mac, or restart the mac itself. But the problem happens again quite immediately after reload if I try to enter a slate!!!

Pretty annoying! Has anyone ever experienced this?

EDIT : problem solved!
JUST TRASH THE “SLATE” FILE IN THE GLW FOLDER!!!

That “slate” file stores all the suggestion the touchscreen gives you when you are typing a channel’s slate on it, so this can get pretty big afters years of using the console. Until a point where it slows down so much the console that the computer thinks the touchscreen has crashed!

At laaaaaaast I found it!!! WooHOOOO! :-)

And I found something that EVERY S12 user HAS to know!

I solved that touchscreen freezing when calling the slate typing page...by trashing the slate file!!!

It seems very logical afterwards: after 6 years of heavy use, that file had became so huge, that it was taking too much time to load it when opening the slate entering window on the touchscreen. The mac was then interpreting this as a crash, showing the "graphics slave has not responded for 20 sec"...then "40 sec"., etc.

So, anyone with a S12 should definitely trash this file pretty often (at least when some slowdown is noticed when opening the slate typing window).

I would even say that this needs to be done very often, as I this window now opens faster than ever (I mean faster than when I first installed the console).

Maybe you guys already knew it?

Or maybe there is a way to prevent the system from generating this slate file?

Hope at least that it will help someone else!

    Cheers

My slate naming has been taking longer and longer for the 5yrs I've had mine. It took like 5-6 seconds before I did this, so I erased that file too and it's fast again. Thanks Maikol!

Hi, i have a question about the slate file so i decided to write here. The question is how to put a slate file or create a slate file in the GLW folder? Because we don't have any. So we could not get any suggestions while we do naming and it tooks time to write word by word.

      Hi there !
If I recall correctly, the slate file should be created automatically if not present, which is what I think happened when I trashed it.

Now that I think about it, I wonder if there isn't an option on the touchscreen to actually enable or disable the slate file usage ?

      Hope this helps !

Hey Maikol thanks for the quick reply! No i could not see any enable disable option on the screen. I could use the "keys to graphics" option but the MAC stays in the machine room so i could not see the screen.
